Posted on August 26, 2014

On behalf of IAPSS and its members, we welcome you back for another exciting school year providing high quality educational opportunities for Indiana school aged children enrolled in our outstanding public schools.

We also welcome 35 new Indiana school superintendents assuming new leadership roles across the state. We are planning an expose’ with pictures and bios to introduce our new leaders to our members in September after they have had a chance to catch their breath with the start of the new school year. Please look for it next month.

Speaking of new leaders, we are planning our Prospective Superintendent’s Seminar on September 19th at the Palms in Plainfield for anyone in a public school nominated by their superintendent who may want “to kick the tires” about becoming a superintendent. Registrations are available if names have yet to be submitted. Please contact Lana White if you need more information. lwhite@iapss-in.org

The ISBA/IAPSS Joint Education Conference is scheduled for September 15-16 at the Indianapolis Convention Center. We are looking forward to welcoming School board members and superintendents to Indianapolis for another outstanding conference to enhance their leadership skills and establishing policy and programs to better serve their school communities. Please see the ISBA.org or IAPSS.org websites for registration materials.

IAPSS wishes Dr. Frank Bush nothing but the best as he retires from his position as the Executive Director of the Indiana School Boards Association for over 26 years. Dr. Bush has been a tireless ambassador for Indiana public schools and has been instrumental in seeing that only quality initiatives and legislation exist for the betterment of our Indiana schools.

At the same time, we welcome Dr. Brian Smith as the new executive director the ISBA. Dr. Smith brings a wealth of experience and talent as a long serving Indiana School Superintendent, most recently from the Hamilton Southeastern School Corporation. We look forward to our working relationship with Dr. Smith.

In line with our mission of providing high quality professional development for our members, we are pleased to announce our new partnership with Indiana University in planning and hosting the New Superintendent’s Academy. The Academy will be in three two day sessions on the IU campus. Session dates will be October 9-10, March 19-20, and June 18-19. IAPSS is very excited about this new partnership and opportunity provided for our new Indiana school leaders.

Of course, we have our IAPSS Annual Conference scheduled for December 7-9, 2014 at the Marriott East Hotel and Conference Center on the east side of Indianapolis. This year’s conference theme – “New Frontiers – Go Where No School Has Gone Before” promises to offer a great program and wonderful opportunity to connect and reconnect with your colleagues. We look forward to seeing everyone in attendance. Registration materials will be available in October.

This is the 150th year anniversary of our national association, AASA, and the national celebration will be held in San Diego Ca on February 26-29, 2015 at the National Education Conference. Indiana’s goal is to have at least 50 Indiana school leaders in attendance and support for our Indiana School Superintendent of the Year recognized. Please see the AASA.org website for registration and housing materials under the events tab.

IAPSS wishes all of you a very successful and productive school year as you lead and support Indiana school children in our public schools across the state.
