On Sunday afternoon, December 8th the IAPSS Ex. Committee met:
On Monday, December 9th the conference started with a session entitled Legislative Priorities–Working
With Your Legislators. The following legislators participated in a panel discussion facilitated by Ex. Director J.T. Coopman.

The General Session was keynoted by Dr. Yong Zhao with the theme of “Catching Up or Leading the Way”
As has been the practice for several years the Indiana Association of Retired Superintendents held their annual meeting on the morning of the first day of the conference. There was a good turn out of retired superintendents where they had a chance to renew long time freindships and hear updates from Pat Mapes, of IEERB and John Barnes of IDOE.
During breaks in the conference the Atrium area of the Marriott was filled with conversation as attendees exchanged ideas and comments.
For the past several years the Annual Meeting has served as a great place for vendors to interact with
superintendents. The support of these vendors means a great deal to IAPSS and their participation is
Following a luncheon co-sponsored by CHORUS and Horace Mann the Second General Session started with a
panel discussion on the impact of the Circuit Breaker and then a session on “Do We Need Graded Schools with Derek Redelman, Associate Director, Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
The first day of the conference concluded with the IAPSS Annual Banquet where awards for service, retirements, Outstanding Educator, Distinguished Service, Past Presidentt and District Superintendents of the
Year were recognized. The evening was concluded by the recognition of the 2014 Indiana Superintendent of the Year.

The final day of the conference started with the traditional Best Ever Breakfast. The speaker was
Dr. Will Miller who spoke to the topic of “Graduation Jolt”
Following the breakfast the first session was State Superintendent of Public Instruction,
Glenda Ritz who gave an update on IDOE activities and the Outreach Coordinators
The morning session concluded with an update on the Affordable Care Act and it’s implications for
school corporations. Presenters were Jim Hamilton from Bose McKinney & Evans and R.E. Sutton of
R. E. Sutton & Associates.

Each of the District Superintendents of the Year will be featured in 2014 eNewsletters starting with the
2014 Indiana Superintendent of the Year in the January edition.
Each District Superinendent has been asked to respond to some questions about their district and advice
for new superintendents.
