Just one nugget. There is much to gain by attending the ISBA/IAPSS Annual Conference in Indianapolis. Listening to the various breakout sessions provide meaningful takeaways for the local school districts, making new vendor contacts increases opportunities, and the key note speakers are always fabulous, but possibly more beneficial are the hallway conversations with superintendent colleagues or other board members. These hallway conversations can be insightful, humorous, serious, or even therapeutic. Listening to others share their stories offers opportunities for personal reflection and reaction. Sharing your own stories allows for learning and discovery by way of listening to the responses from colleagues. When we listen and learn we ultimately become better leaders. Whether you were a listener or one who shared, I hope you walked away from the recent ISBA/IAPSS Fall Conference with at least one gold nugget’s worth of learning or discovery.
Congratulations to Maggie Hoernemann, Avon Superintendent, who was recently named Indiana’s 2016 Superintendent of the Year. IAPSS looks forward to honoring Maggie and all of the other 2016 District Superintendents of the Year at the IAPSS Annual Meeting December 13-15, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Indianapolis.
Look for your fall season district meeting registration information from Dr. Coopman very soon. And don’t forget to make your arrangements for attending the AASA Conference in Phoenix February 11-13, 2016. Register your spouse or significant other and consider extending your stay for a Valentine’s Weekend getaway.
As always, please let us know how IAPSS can best serve our membership: email@example.com.
