IAPSS – A Message from our President – November 2018

Posted on November 26, 2018

Dear Fellow Superintendents,

Welcome to winter at your schools! Elections and teacher negotiations are completed, with a new budget scheme coming in a month. Thanks to our organization, IASBO, ISBA, and IASP for the needed training to ready our school districts for the changing and challenging times.

“Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered, either by themselves or by others.” –Mark Twain

JT has suggested that we contact our state representatives. Your time and communication will be well rewarded when JT, Bob Taylor, and others lobby on behalf of public schools and our children.

“Be bold in what you stand for and careful what you fall for.” – Ruth Boorstin

Your days are long, with many days added to your contracted work calendar. You don’t brag about the extra effort, as it is what we do for others. At this time of Thanksgiving, you are to be thanked!

“I’d rather be a failure at something I enjoy than be a success at something I hate.” – George Burns

All of us have reviewed our transportation procedures following the deaths of three children at Tippecanoe Valley Schools. We mourn with and for them. Each of us knows the burdens we carry for the safety of our community youth.

“And I knew exactly what to do. But in a much more real sense, I had no idea what to do.” – Michael Scott, The Office

The Holidays approach in a matter of weeks. I hope and trust that you are able to wind down and relax a few days with family and friends. You deserve it!

“If I had a choice of hanging out with anyone in the entire world or sitting at home with you eating pizza watching a crappy TV show, I’d choose you every time.” – J.D., Scrubs

Best wishes,

Tom Edington,
IAPSS President
