IAPSS is pleased to introduce a unique executive coaching opportunity tailored to sitting superintendents eager to enhance their leadership journey and revolutionize their professional lives.

The ExCo: IAPSS Executive Coaching Experience will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase starting in March 2024.

Program Implementation - Two Phase Roll Out

  • Phase 1: Executive Coach Training

Experienced educational leaders will be selected through an application process to receive executive coaching training through the Harvard Division of Continuing Education Professional and Executive Development program.

This executive coaching training will equip these educational leaders as coaches, trained to guide others who are interested in elevating their leadership journey and transforming their professional lives.

Selected ExCo Coaches will receive training at no cost.

Harvard-trained ExCo Coaches will be selected by participants in Phase 2 who are interested in elevating their impact. They will receive a stipend for their coaching services (if assigned a participant).

  • Phase 2: Executive Coaching

Participants consisting of sitting superintendents will have the opportunity to select one of our Harvard-trained coaches, who will guide them through a thought-provoking and creative coaching process by identifying strategic goals, developing actionable plans, enhancing leadership practices, and unlocking their full potential. Benefits

Executive Coaching is designed to help leaders reach goals and overcome challenges. According to the 2022 ICF Global Coaching Outcomes Awareness Study, leaders participating in executive coaching report remarkable benefits, including:

  • improved communication skills

  • increased self-esteem

  • better work-life balance

  • enhanced productivity

  • optimized teamwork performance

  • improved leadership and management strategies

  • accelerated onboarding into new professional roles

Mentoring vs. Coaching

Mentors share their past experiences as examples to help you answer your questions.
Coaches ask questions that help you find your own answers. Coaching goes deeper into the client’s specific challenges
and often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership.
Consider the analogy below: You are preparing to climb a mountain.

A mentor is like that seasoned mountaineer who has already conquered the peak. They are there to share their own stories, lessons learned, and their unique path to the summit. They won't necessarily join you on your climb, but their wisdom-filled adventure tales might inspire you and reveal new perspectives about your journey.

A coach is like a dedicated mountain guide. They walk alongside you, continually assessing your progress, helping you maneuver around obstacles and fine-tune your strategies, encouraging you to build the best path for yourself. They might not have summited this exact mountain (your unique professional journey), but they have the tools, knowledge, and expertise to facilitate your climb to the very top.
